Contraceptive Advice/Pill Checks/Injection

After initial consultation with the doctor, follow up pill checks and prescription issue will be undertaken by the Practice Nurse. Please see the Practice nurse if you require the contraceptive injection.

There are also 'walk-in clinics' for Sexual Health in the CRI on Newport Road.  This service is for men/women at risk of sexually transmitted diseases and/or unplanned pregnancies. Appointments are not required and full information including clinic times/dates/telephone numbers are available on Sexual Health Clinics - Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (nhs.wales)

Unfortunately we do not provide a coil fitting service at the Practice.  We can however refer you to another local GP surgery to have this done. Please book an appointment with the nurse to arrange this.

Cervical Smears

Important Changes to Cervical Screening Programme

Please arrange an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses when you are due a smear. Cervical Screening Wales will send you an invite. If you have any queries regarding your invite or when you are next due, then please contact Cervical Screening Wales directly.

Travel Clinic

If you need vaccinations for foreign travel, please schedule a telephone call with our Practice Nurse. This will allow the nurse to assess which vaccinations are necessary and whether an in-person appointment is needed for administration. Please note that certain travel vaccines are not covered by NHS services, so patients may need to obtain them from a private travel clinic.

Where to get help

Mental Health (Guided Self-Help Service)

Action in Caerau & Ely (ACE) holds a contract with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to provide a free Guided Self-Help service to patients of all GP practices across East, North, South West and West Cardiff. GP’s can complete referrals for guided self-help using a referral form, signpost you or you can self-refer. If you have contacted your GP with concerns about your mental health it is usually better if your GP makes the referral as this will contain relevant information about what your GP thinks would help you. This ensures a more joined up approach towards recovery.  For further information please follow the link below.
