ALERT: Meningitis B Booster Vaccination

01/07/26  – No GP surgery in Cardiff and the Vale are allowed to take part in the MenB booster programme. Eligible patients will need to attend a Mass Vaccination Centre to receive the vaccination.

INVITATIONS

Invitations will be issued by health boards for Cohort 1 (those born between 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008), with self-referrals to health board vaccination clinics for Cohort 2 (those less than 25 years of age attending higher education or residential further education for the first time).

QUESTIONS

Patients should direct their questions directly to the Health Board. 

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

ELIGIBLE COHORTS FOR MENB VACCINATION

Cohort 1 - all individuals born between 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008 (17 to 18 years old)

Cohort 2 - individuals born after 21/07/2001 (turning 25 after 21/07/2026) AND are due to start undergraduate higher education OR residential further education, for the first time in autumn 2026, including international students and those from the UK Devolved Administrations and Crown Dependencies.

The offer does not include:

- those aged 25 years and over when presenting for their first dose

- those aged less than 25 years continuing their studies (not first-time entrants)

- those in school-level residential settings, for example sixth form boarding schools, unless they are eligible due to their age

- those who completed a 2-dose course of Bexsero® within the last 5 years.

- those who completed a 2 or 3 dose course of Trumenba® within the last 5 years.

Efficiency

Please assist us in maintaining the utmost efficiency of our service by minimizing both the queue at the desk and the wait times on the telephone. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. 

  • Request your repeat medication via NHS Wales App. The App will notify you when the prescription is printed.
  • As your local pharmacy Select a 'prefered pharmacy' so your signed prescription is automatically sent to the pharmacy instead of collecting it from our reception desk. 
  • Phone after 8am for same day appointments and if possible, after 10am for routine appointments. 
  • Check in for your appointment at the self check in screen to the right of the reception desk.
  • Telephone the surgery after 2pm for your test results. Please wait 5 working days after a blood test and 10 working days after a scan. 
  • Submit sick note extension requests via Fit Note Request Form.
  • Please ensure your contact details with us are current. Submit a change via Changing your contact details.
  • New patients register via Join the surgery
